One of the most frequent concerns that many people have when considering Tai Chi for beginners is that they will not understand enough about the roots of Tai Chi to enjoy all of the many benefits that are associated with it. That is not necessarily the case, but it can be helpful to learn as much as possible. We have put together a brief Tai Chi for beginners cheat sheet to help.

Qi

Qi is the energy force that flows through your body. It is said that Tai Chi allows you to unblock your qi and promote the flow of your qi through your body properly.

Yin and Yang

Yin and yang are opposing elements, and are the forces that help keep the universe balanced. Tai Chi is believed to promote this critical balance.

Qigong

Quigong is the discipline from which tai chi originates. This ancient practice encompases movement, breath and the mind in order to form a balance of energy that is calm, peaceful and natural. That balance can then be used in other aspects of your life, such as work, play, or even self-defense. Much like yoga, in which there are many different types, there are numerous tyes of different qigong disciplines. Of these, there are five major traditions as follows:

• Buddhist
• Taoist
• Martial arts
• Confucian
• Medical

There are also two major types of qigong that are known as soft and hard. Soft qigong is referred to as inner qigong. Tai chi is an example of this.

Hopefully this has helped, we will be looking at more information on Tai Chi for beginners and Tai Chi in general in the coming days, so check back in!

The health benefits of Tai Chi can be great. With a larger portion of our population falling into the obese category, it is more important than ever to stay active. Unfortunately, as we grow older, our aerobic capacity begins to decrease. Studies have shown that people who practice Tai Chi on a regular basis have a much higher aerobic capacity than individuals who are sedentary at the same age.

Fibromyalgia

This is a very serious disorder that affects the musuloskeletal system. The symptoms associated with this disease typically can flair up without warning and can cause a great deal of pain. At this time, there is no known cure for the condition. It is thought, however, that practicing Tai Chi regularly could help to reduce the symptoms of the condition, in addition to improving one’s quality of life.

Stress

Stress is one factor in many American’s lives that seems to go unchecked. The movements, breathing and mental concentration that are taking place while doing daily Tai Chi may be able to help relieve and control some of that stress. It has long been thought that there is a strong connection between the mind and body and that controlled breathing, eye-hand coordination and body movement can help promote a feeling of peace and calm.

These are all very important benefits that can be attributed to Tai Chi, but there are also a number of other health benefits of Tai Chi, including:

• Lowering the risk of injury

• Low-impact movements that place minimal amounts of stress on the
• joints and muscles, allowing for everyone to enjoy Tai Chi

• The ability to partake in physical activity everyday, leading to many health benefits

• Advanced movements allow you to keep the routines interesting

Tai Chi is a great way to stay active and help keep your body and mind active. Check back in for more on the health benefits of Tai Chi!
